Pics of my newly dyed and recovered GTA style door panels!

Over the course of the past 6 weeks or so, I've been working on dying and recovering the center section of my GTA "deluxe" door panels. I'm very excited that I just finished one of them and the other will be completed soon. They came out exactly how I wanted them to, and it wasn't easy! There was alot of trial and error involved. During this time, I've also dyed several other interior parts black. I'm going to make a separate post for those items though. Enough typing, here are the pictures!

Grey GTA door panel before:

Comparison of grey to black during:

insert covered in headliner material and almost ready to install:

after!:

The indentations are showing because I just pressed the cloth covered insert into place. Hopefully, they will raise after I let it sit for a while. The middle section looks slightly darker in person than in the pictures. Actually, it almost perfectly matches the dark grey plastic trim piece. I used the flash for these pics because if i had it off, the contrast didn't show up at all. Let me know what you all think!

I don't like the headliner material, but I like the die job. I'm doing something very similar with my GTA door panels, except that I'm in the process of selecting fabric for the inserts.

after, except that the carpet insert is just temporary until I find a material:

yours look really good. I didn't know that they came in red from the factory. What brand dye did you use? Mine is VHT. I'm using the same headliner material on my door panels, sail panels (rear speaker covers) and the headliner (of course)... so I think when it's all put together it'll flow nicely. I did consider using dark grey vinyl, but i thought it'd be tougher to work with, especially on the t-top headliner.

I'm actually using Plastikote. I've found that it's a perfect color match. In fact, my arm rests are factory gray, they aren't painted. The door panels are an excellent match with the factory arm rests.

just cut a piece of masonite or aluminum with the holes in the proper places, and attach it with rivets or a very good glue. The only purpose of that upper section is to hold the black trim piece in the right place, and your fix won't be visible once the panel is installed. I'll be doing this with my other set of GTA panels when I incorporate them.

do you think using masonite and glue would be strong enough? Or should I go with the aluminum/rivit method

I plan to rivet mine. I doubt the glue would make a good permanent solution.
