door hinge question
door hinge question
i have the door off and am ready to install the new lower hing pin. i have noticed that the door position post (not sure what to call it) on the body side hing bracket is worn. can this be replaced or does the whole thing need to be replaced?

thx!

thx!
door
i just put the door back on. the door position lever still mates with it ok. i out it all back together and the door still would not line up so i put my floor jack under the end of it and raised the car up some. it tweaked it back into to place. figures LOL.
Do you mean the door position post as in the position retention (mechanism with spring and roller) or the pivot points onhinge itself?
If the hinge itself, you can either buy oversive bushings from a gm dealership (like $.15 apiece) or replace the body hinge (just check the local yards for a cam/fbird with a door already pulled off. If it's the roller-detent assembly, you would either have to rebuild, replace, or remove it.
My advice is that if this is a care you care about, replace whatever is necessary just to avoid long-term problems. If it's just another car, just install the door and align to compensate for the problems.
