What is the best paint gun?
I am getting ready to paint my car, and am looking at the millions of options available. I am really considering the Devilbiss finish line 3 set with regulator, gun hook and 1.3mm tip and a 1.8mm tip for the primer. If you have any suggestions or testimonials of this or other paint guns, i would like to hear them.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have sprayed with dozens of guns, and although I sit behind a desk now, I still try to keep my chops up once and a while. I have seen claims to greatness over the years and have succomed to some of the advertising claims. Sata has been the leader for a few years, but also quite expensive. I believe they are about to be de-throned, for the absolute best I have seen, bar none is the Iwata HVLP with the 1.3 tip:Manual HVLP Full-sized Gravity Fed Spray Guns: LPH400-LVB. Now, is it bang for the buck, one time only to spray your car? Probably not.
Devilbiss makes some great guns and I have owned three.
whatever you choose, consider how much you are going to use it, before you blow five bills.

I have 2 sharp guns. One old model 75 that I absolutely love and a newer 975that I really don't like. I have searched for some guns that were siphon feed and gravity feed, HVLP, non HVLP, and always came back to what I know works for me. The true test is that this will be an investment. If you are going to use it more than once, get a good quality gun.

I have a Devilbiss finishline and I'll tell you you can't beat it for the price. Great coverage, low overspray, and I've had nothing but compliments on the work i've done for people, I'll only give you one piece of advice, prep is everything
My ol pappy always says... "You can't make it shine with Bondo, and you can't do bodywork with paint."
I used to always spray with Sata stuff when I did custom boats, and it worked great. I also did one of my best paint jobs ever with a $99 gun from Advance a few years ago. (I had sold my Sata guns.)
I would say if the gun is for one or two times use then don't spend more than $250. However if you wanted to buy a better gun they seem to get ok money for them on Ebay and that could offset the cost some.

i've got a finex. does the job. i think it was about 100. i wouldn't go with any budget/no name/swap meet guns, maybe something $150 to $250 range. i wouldn't buy a sata unless i was using it a lot, or making money using it.

Iwata is nice, but to truely understand the ability of Sata, then get their RP 2000 (or 3000 but i only own the 2000) gun. HVLP is nice and all, but now reduced pressure guns shoot like a conventional gun and is legal to use cause of its >65% transfer efficiency. Don't mess around with HVLP's unless you wanna do the job slow. They cost about the same anyway.
