Newbie question- What constitutes an F Body?

I'm just getting into cars and third-gens in particular, although I have yet to scrape enough money together to buy one, and so I had a pretty basic question, which seemed like it should be posted in this section.

What parts exactly, do third generation F-Bodies hold in common? I looked up F-Bodies on wikipedia, but it only gave very basic information. Also I was wondering wether or not they were unibodies, since I read that the 1967 Camaro was a sort of partial unibody. Thanks for any responses!

almost all body parts in 3rd gen camaros are compatible. Same goes for firebirds/trans ams with the exception of 91-92 model firebirds and trans ams. The front and rear bumer covers were different. But with slight altercations an 82-90 front cover can be put on a 91-92...Pretty much all interior between 82-92 camaros and firebirds are as well compatible. Except the dash pads. A dash pad for a camaro will not fit into a firebird and vice versa.

All F-Bodies ever made were uni-bodies and they were all based on the same F-body platform from the factory. So they are all F-bodies. The new 2009 Camaro, however, will be based on the new Zeta platform, so I guess you could call it a Z-body?

Essentially, 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds are completely identical except for the body, and some of the interior. In other words, if you took a 'Bird and a 'Maro and stripped off all the sheet metal, you couldn't tell them apart (same frame, suspension, engine, drivetrain, etc.). If you have any more questions this is the place to ask.

On days when your car is running good the F in F-body stands for "Fun!"

On days when your car isnt running well the F stands for.....well lets just focus on the good days!
