I think on a jeep or something of that nature it would be cool, but on a third gen? I wouldn't think it would look good. Just my .

I agree that the floor isnt what i would call a work of art but id figure id throw it out there, because it may be an eye sore but perhaps the benefits would prevail?

not for a daily driver...but if its going to be a lightened-caged-street fighter, go for it.

Im tossing the idea around myself. actually Im in the process of bedlining the floor...but im tossing the idea around whether to put the carpet back in or not. i think im going to as that floor is going to get DAMN hot.

I think im going to go through with it. if it looks like crap then I will throw some carpet over it and call it a day. someone has to be willing to step up and try it, you never know it might work out. and if not i am sure its better off than the oem sound dampening material

Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
in my 93 RX-7 I did that. Rubberized bedliner about 1/4 inch thick, and then for the showy factor I put chrome diamond plate floor mats in. looked good in the car as it was all done in black with a few chrome highlights, but I dont see a F-body looking good. We got some large expances of flooring compared to my FD3.

I really doubt you'll save weight. Aftermarket carpet is very light weight unless you get the heavy rubber backing. Considering what the good quality beadliner materials cost (Advance Autoparts spray can crap not withstanding), I doubt you'll save any money either.

im gonna have to agree....that stuff will probably end up being more expensive...especially if you decide you dont like it and put carpet in anyway

I wasnt thinking aerosol... I was thinking more or less herculiner, that big gallon can that you roll on. it gets 1/4" thick and that can weights less than a roll of carpet and Ive seen it done right on a bed of a truck. If it looks like crap I will cover it up but its only a $35 loss for someone to try something new.

Go for it!

Afterwards pics ae required though...

Besides, these days, spray in liner can be colored, if black isn't your thing.

The herculiner type stuff I've seen & used sure isn't less weight than automotive carpet when it's caked 1/4" thick, and it also costs well over $100/gallon.

I think a standard aftermarket (i.e. not with the OEM rubber backing) thirdgen passenger area carpet weighs well under 5lbs.

That gives me an idea.

I wanted to paint my car, but paint is kinda expensive, but Crayons are like dirt cheap. Just hope I can stay between the lines....

Well not sure where you saw that price but I picked up a gallon at autozone yesterday for $40. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

to be honest, weight means nothing to me... Its a weekend car, the carpet is trashed and the cabin is loud. bedliners are easy to clean, keeps the pans from rusting and works out well when you spill your coffee :P
My biggest hope that it cuts down a couple Dbs... thats all...
I am sure people think its stupid but You never know, the person who invented bottled water was probably labeled an idiot but whos laughing now. All I am saying is this may worth doing. I will try and have pictures by monday, there will be alot of prep work involved and probably wont work on it until then.

If your goal is to cut down noise, a layer or 2 of dynamat or Second Skin below the carpet will work better than the bedliner.

For noise reduction, Dynomat.

Then, put a light coat of Herculiner or something, to kill the silver shine.

I never implied it would look ghetto.

I was just offering a solution, if noise reduction was your biggest concern, that's all.

Except that if it doesn't work out how you want, too bad... you're stuck with it. That crap is almost impossible to get off.

For being such an inventive brilliant genius that you are why would you spray a product into your vehicle only to remove it with such a corrosive material. Don't listen to others, don't ask for opinions, just do it and post the results. There is alot of negatism here as you have experienced so JUST DO IT and share your experiences!

Okay, I finished the project. It wasnt exactly what I was invisioning... but its still very nice.
I will save the uploading of the pictures til tomorrow and post a how to thread on it I guess.. This project is very very very time consuming, especially if you have rusty floor pans. Was it worth it? To me it was very worth it. It was a great learning experiance. The whole floor is completed except the drivers front pan where the floor mats go... theres some nasty cuts which are being welded professionally this week so I will redo that section later. Everything else is done though. Will post pics tomorrow.
