dummy "ram air" hood inlets
I have an 84' z28 & like most others i've seen it has the hood with depressions for a "ram air" or whatever they are called, however they are sealed off. The other day I saw a 82' Camaro Indianapolis 500 pace car and the ports in the hood looked exactly like mine however these had a butterfly I assume attached to the throttle rod & opened up when accelerating.
I was thinking about cutting my ports open & getting an open element air filter, I assume this would give me a little bit more air than before, but after seeing that GM did actually make some that were functional I wonder if it is possible to convert my "dummy" ports in to butterflied directional air flow ports. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is there some sort of kit to install under the hood, I can't imagine how this part works with the opening & shutting of the hood.
Thanks,
Cody

The functional ones are for cars set up with cross ram injection and a special adapter that connects near the butterflies, i actually have one of the factory fiberglass hoods that utilize the butterflies, it's a shame you dont live closer id sell it to you....anyway do a search for cross ram i think and it should turn up some results. Although you should know that GM discontinued the use of the butterflies because of water entering the engine and causing damage.....

Thanks for the reply, I think I will just leave mine alone after hearing about the water problem, it seems like it would turn in to a major problem driving in a good hard rain storm, I never thought about that.
Thanks again,
