Where to find taller ducktail spoiler..?

in checking out a link off this site for fiberglass parts, I noticed a picture of a Camaro with a ducktail spoiler that is definitely taller than anything factory, more like the ones on the 2nd gens....however, no listing for availability. I think the pic was modeling for the hood or something. I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a taller ducktail spoiler for the 3rd Gen cars...

Hawks Thirdgen has a 5" spoiler and there is a guy on this site from Canada who made his own and it has more of a "duck tail" appearance. If I find his name, i'll pass it on.

These are some pics of the one I made. The tail lights have been polished and painted since the first two pics.

duckbill spoiler

JohnyIroc, that is one SWEEEEEET ride. The Cowl scoop and Spoiler compliment each other. Are those Boyd's Magneto rims??? what size? I was wondering what they would look like on a 3rd gen, Ive seen a few trucks with them but no cars. Your Z doesn't look like its been lowered more than an inch at most. Very classy ride.

Thanks for the good words... Yes they are magneatos... 17X8 front and 17X10 rear. The ride height is adjustable... but I'd say it is a good 2 inches down from stock in that pic.

The Paint is Sunset Red over Pure Gold PPG. The Mid coat is pretty thin and it takes about 6 coats to get the red colour. If you stop at 4 coats it ends up to be more of a copper/red colour.

Johnny...if you could possibly make another spoiler like that and send it somewhere so they could make a mold and offer it as a production part that would be sweet. I bet if you sent another one to hawks they could make the mold and such, then you would only have to make one and be done with it.

He could do that, but then his car wouldn't have that special *touch* to it. That car looks sweet, and in my opinion, the only way it should be duplicated is if someone like you or myself put the work into it, as he did. Big for origionality.

If that spoiler were to be duplicated by anyone, I'd definately buy one, by the way.

JohnyIroc, how'd you form that spoiler when you made it? The common foam mold and fiberglass technique or something else?

Short answer: carved the shape out of foam and wrapped it in glass.

I used a factory '87 spoiler as a base... the foam I used was a 2-part polyurethane. You have to use polyurethane because most types of fiberglass resin will eat most other types of foam. I cut off the top of the factory spoiler... mixed up the 2-part foam and poured it on to the factory spoiler base. The foam then grows into a big loaf which I then carved and wrapped in glass.

There is a similar spoiler to that that came on the 88 Camaro, it is much taller than the stock spoiler. There is one at my local yard and it has the third brake light built into it.
