change of spoiler???????????
i was thinking about putting a spoiler on my 87 T/A from a 91 gta. the one on there at the mo is the heavy foam wrap aronund spoiler. i have a 91 gta that im scraping which has the lighter fibreglass one and was wondering what you guys think about it?? is it much lighter and worth doing the swap? also is the later spoiler better for down force at speeds?
Your 87 is provides much better downforce. The 91/92s are too flat and don't provide any downforce from what I understand and may actually cause lift. Is it worth it from the fact it shouldn't fall apart and the loss of weight, yes, performance, no.

I guess my question would be are you doing this for appearance's sake or for performance? If appearance sake, then by all means do it. On the performance side of the issue, I'm of two minds. While the old spoiler may have provided more downforce, it also weighed a lot more, so would the performance advantage of better downforce be offset by greater vehicle weight?
Just as a side note, I took my old foam rubber spoiler off recently and am replacing it with a straight wing. Just like the look better.

well, i think id rather have better down force. its a case of 6 of one and half a dozen of another really!! if i put a lighter spoiler on there and lose down force then that cant be good for traction. if it gave better down force then it'd be worth it i think.

Question: The downforce of the spoiler creates "weight" over the rear of the car, is this right? How much downforce do these spoilers even make?

CAN YOU JUST SWITCH THE SPOILERS OR DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE SOMETHING TO THE HATCH?

I seriously doubt downforce is ever going to matter unless you're barrelling around corners at 70+ mph. At any kind of normal highway speed it's practically pointless. You just dont go fast enough to see the benefits of downforce unless you're taking high-speed corners, and if that were the case I think you'd be better off with an actual wing.
Just do whatever you think looks best.
