what is this part under my steel bumper?
Hey all, I've got a question, while doing some work on my car I noticed this plastic piece mounted under the steel bumper, there are two of these, one on each side and one is broken, around the bolt holding it in place.
Does anyone know what this thing is and what it's for? I have an idea what it might be, but I'm not sure.
I don't really want to replace it if it's not a neccessary part.

I took those things off my car. Think it's a left over part from the assembly line where the car rests on the conveyor system.

i dont know about that... i mean...what else could they be? by their placement it is quite obvious that they are, at some point in construction, a place to support the car. and they can support the weight of the car. just because they are plastic does not mean that they are strong. i hate to say it, but a long time ago i did actually give it a whirl and jacked the front of the car up with those mounts and the help of a piece of i-beam it worked well. but not something that i would ever do again. the thing i dont like is that they are held in with a single screw and i dont think they will take any horizontal shifting/loading very well, but as far and compressional stresses, they are perfectly capable.
