Stripping Paint

I am getting a 92 Firebird tomorrow. It has been repainted black. Although the paint has chipped in some places and I would like to bring back the origional color. Which is red. is there any way i could get the black off without runing the paint underneath. I could use a paint remover but I know that will take all of it off. I am thinking of just sanding down to the red. But from there i have no idea of what to do. Also there are some areas such as the engine bay, door jambs, ect. That are still red but do have a little bit of black overspray on them. What can I do to get the black off without damaging the paint underneath. So far all i can come up with is sanding and using some touch up paint. Also I was wondering if someone could give me a link to a tutorial/guide as to how to feather edge.
