Earl Scheib Paint Jobs?

I just wanted to see what you guys thought of a earl schieb paint job. I had a car painted there about 8 years ago for $350 and I was pretty happy with it. There were no runs in it, it was taped off very well and had a good shine. Not the shine of a $5000 paint job, but it looked good. Plus they gave me a 6 year warranty on fading, cracking or peeling. Now I have seen some pretty bad earl shcieb paint jobs as well. Why is this? Does it depend the person who has painted your car that day. Maybe they were unexperienced or just did not care that day. THANKS FOR ANY INPUT

GeeJenn,

I had my car painted at earl sheib and it really does depend on the experience of the individual that is working on your car. Like anywhere you go, experience is key. My guy did a great job but over time the plastics cracked because they didnt prep the bumper/spoiler well. So bottom line is earl is still earl and I dont mind their work but there is a big difference between them and a shop that takes the panels off individually sands / primers / paint / clear coat /cures then bolts it back on the car.

The other thing with earl is that they put my whole car in the curing booth and it cooked my motor. I felt a difference with the performance of it after it was in the booth. So as you wish it is your decision but for me my next paint job im going to pay extra and have them paint the panels individually.

Depends on what you want to do with your car.

I hope this helps clear things up a bit.

your motor, gets hotter being operated daily, then it ever got in the booth. id blame those problems on something else, not the paintjob.

iroc,

Well I did notice a difference before and after in the performance of the motor. Sure it wasn't so drastic but its the little things to me that stand out. All Im saying is that it probably didn't help the motor and for me I will spend the money to get the fenders taken off and painted individually just because that way they get the attention which will result in a better paint job. Many factors come into play when deciding this so to me its worth it. To each his/her own.
