Scratched T-Tops
My t-tops are scratched pretty bad. Someone told me to wet sand them , make it smooth and then put window tint on them. Will sanding the t-tops hurt them?

it could if you dont do it right. get some junk yard t-tops or something of the familiar, adn test your technique. I would polish it like I polish metal IMHO. Use rough until the scratches are out then use different grit types all the way up to 40000 grit, you will have back to stock glass if I am not mistaken.

Re: Scratched T-Tops
try it on junk yard tops, or something like that, does not need to be for the camaro, I would try it, but I cant here, if yall can wait a few months, I can do a step by step, or prove myself wrong.
or you can just get a piece of glass and try it yourself, who knows, it prolly wont be 100% clear, thats why you need to tint it, or it can be 100% but meh..

it would probably end up clear. you wouldn't be able to skip parts of the process and def some rubbing compound is in the works.

Re: Scratched T-Tops
If they are scratched bad there is not much you can do. Glass doesnt sand well at all, and there are compounds out there but they actually eat the glass away.
I tried sanding/polishing my glass driving light covers, and talked to a rep for Norton, and it didnt work, didnt clear them up at all mind you alot of it was rock pits. But I have orbital sanding scratches on my hatch glass (due to an idiot) and I tried on those to to no avail.
The tint will prob help hide it, but for the work and effort its prob easier to find a decent set off here or out of a junk yard if the tinting doesnt help.

Re: Scratched T-Tops
Does anyone have Lexan t-tops? I have been curious about that and had NO idea this stuff existed until just today. I did a google search and I found 1 or 2 sites that sell it, but they just said Lexan kit for 82-92 camaro, nothing about t-tops, if I can tint it... I just need to be educated on it if anyone can help me out, please do. I would love to learn. THanks

Re: Scratched T-Tops
I am picking up a set of lexan ones for when I go out drag racing,
if I were you I would just paint them black or the color of the car. Glass ones for cruising of course thou
forgot to add.... NEVER use a orbiting sander for buffing or blending, I only use those to scuff paint. hand sand and all its glory will be the way to go, and keep the spots small, this is for metal and the likes, not sure on glass thou. as of yet anyways, found a set of xtra tops from my 300z, but they are not scratched.... so I guess I will have to work on my camaros tops once I return this 25 of july.
