85+ T.A Hood Modification.

Hey im thinking about making the 2 vents in the front of the 85 hood funcional, Im also wondering if it has been done before.
Im running a 14x3" drop base open element air filter and I was going to cut 2 holes @ 1x4" just behind the vents and make a air box like setup to direct air from the vents to the front of the aircleaner.
It will be fixed to the under side of the hood so when the hood is up you wont see it unless you look up, im thinking of making it out of 2mm alloy diamond (checker) plate so it still looks good.

Has anyone else done something like this?

The only thing I would worry about is it might suck water straight into the carby. I guess they make the air box for the ram air hood on TPI cars which is kind of the same so I must not be to bad.

I'm winning on IROC hood on ebay for $1.25 which I might use to make the louvers functional or go all out and make a jap style hood with a big vent in the middle and two small ones at the back. This would be for letting air out though. I'll put pics on the camaro firebird forum if it happens. I'm craziroc over there BTW.

yeah I have looked at thepics you got of youre IROC, i like the lowone with the masive rims
It is like the ramair style but more of a CAI system, i just wanto direct the air to the filter it wont be hard up against it.

I just thought if you dont want to cut the hood you could use the intake bit that goes over the radiator from a TPI car and duct it into your air cleaner some how. I dont know if it would work I only thought of it a second a go.

The big wheels will be coming for my car. I'm in the process of putting corvette 13" rotor with commodore twin piston calipers on so re using the 15" wheels is out of the question.
