Please help me with my hatch!
Please help me with my hatch!
I recently pulled the remnants of my old hatch motor assembly out of my trunk to replace it. That went very smoothly but when i went to finally close the trunk, it wouldnt close. The problem seems to be the hook on the hatch itself. It wont fully engage the locking mechanism on the pull down motor. Now believe me, I've adjusted and adjusted on the pull down assembly to get the hook to latch on, but to no avail.
My question is, could the hatch HOOK itself be bent, preventing it from hooking onto the motor?
My hatch hook is kinda parallagram shaped...should it be perfectly square? I had to SLAM the crap outta the trunk to get it close before I got the new assembly. Could my excessive slamming have bent the hook?
Pleeease help guys. I really appreciate it...thankyou for reading my boring hatch post.

No, the parallelogram shape to the hook is correct, it's not bent. If you've slammed it, you've almost certainly broken the motor housing, so the whole assembly "droops" downward and is almost impossible to get to close right. I'm not sure what parts you replaced, but if the motor housing is broken where it bolts to the inside of the trunk, the pulldown will never work right. Grab the motor itself and see if it wiggles around any, it should be mounted solidly.
If you need a new motor housing or continue to have problems, contact Lon at Top Down Solutions (board sponsor), he's the guru of those hatch pull-downs, and a very nice guy when you need help!

so is the motor all the way up on the tracks?
and are you saying that the lock wont lock?

Sooo...all it needed was a washer/spacer on the bottom bolt of the mounting bracket.
That made the loop hook's path into the locking mechanism more direct...if that makes any sense at all.
Thanks for the replies guys. Next time I'll pay more attention.

Re: Please help me with my hatch!
Hey guys I when I bought my camaro the pull down motor was completely torn apart and the rear hatch wouldn't close. I had to tie it down to drive the car to my house. I then welded the two moving parts of the mechansim and has since atayed that way for the last three years os so. Its worked great for me and one less thing to worry about. Just a thought.
