Window Tracks instalation

How do you put the window back on the tracks and how do you put the tracks back on the door?

Re: Window Tracks instalation

It's best with pictures, but there are (IIRC) three rivets that hold the window to the long track, maybe two (it's been a while since I've had to pull a thirdgen window regulator. Those rivets are surrounded by plastic so that it's not rivet to glass contact. You can see the scissor part, right? Well there are two plastic wheels that should be in the long track. There is a second track, about a third the length of the long one. The last plastic wheel goes in this track, and this track is bolted to the door. The regulator and motor area has four rivets holding it to the door. Look for pictures to see where the short track bolts to and the window regulator/motor is riveted to. Since they are 1/4" rivets, you either need one of those tree branch trimmer shaped riveters for $30-40, or a pnuematic riveter for $80-$120, or galvanized bolts, lock washers, and nuts for $2-$3 - you decide haha. Don't forget the lock washers. They're as important as the nut - what good is a nut if it vibrates off.

Re: Window Tracks instalation

Look here for some diagrams from the 82 Camaro Shop manual. Based on the discussion in the referenced thread, the design of the front (window) guide changed. If you need it, I can scan a diagram of the rivet installation for teh three bushings that hold the window to the sash...
