Rims gone bad? What?!
Rims gone bad? What?!
So yeah. I bought my '87 formula two years ago. At the time the rims were shiny and beautiful and metallic looking... this is what they look like now:

yeah. The owner who had it before me just sprayed chrome paint over the perfectly nice looking gold rim. So there's two questions I have:
1.) How would I fix this? Do I have to like, sandblast it down and clearcoat it?
and
2.) Would it even be worth fixing them? I mean, they're 15 inch rims. I'm sure I could find some dragster who might buy them from me if I fix em'. Either way, I'm starting to think replacing might be the better option here...
As a side note: Check out this pic. I was just testing my new digital camera. How about that for a wickid reflection?

Re: Rims gone bad? What?!
well most likely he stripped them and painted them like everyone else but never put clear coat back on. repeat the rim polishing steps (stripper, paint etc) and then get them clear coated. IMO i would get 16" rims in the style you like. it all depends on how much you are attached to them.
Re: Rims gone bad? What?!
well that's the thing. I tried using paint stripper on one wheel and it doesn't seem to want to get the paint off. Is there like... heavy duty paint stripper around?
And I need new rims anyway. Perhaps I'll look around for a decent set of IROCs.

Have them blasted maybe? Preferably, media blasting over sand or chemically dipped.

Re: Rims gone bad? What?!
Unless you like those rims a lot and intend to keep them, I would not waste much time or effort fixing them. They are just the stock 15" wheels...not very desireable, and you'd have a hard time selling them...low demand.

lots of people suggest aircraft grade stripper. never seen it but it's supposed to be at any autozone or parts store.
