Spoiler question. Trans am.
Im looking to buy a 86 trans am. Its in really good shape except for a few small things. It has a 305 4bbl and its automatic. I dont expect it to be quick...
But anyway, the spoiler is shot. Im aware that this is a 86-only spoiler. If I get a spoiler off a newer trans-am or gta (87 and up), can I remove the brakelight from the back glass? Or will I be left whit holes in the glass or something?
Bear with me, im new to f-bodies...

Re: Spoiler question. Trans am.
There would be two big holes in the glass.
The '87-'90 spoilers are all rotted out too, your best bet for the same look would be a '91-'92 spoiler or a fiberglass replacement of the original.

Wouldn't plan on easily finding a good used 91-92 spoiler either....most are rotted just like the 87-90s. Mine was broke all the way through in about 8 places when I bought my car. Best bet is to tough it out and get a new one. I got lucky and found an NOS factory paint defect takeoff from eBay a few years back for about $140 shipped.

I've switched hatches many times and encountered no problems. With the urethane wrap around spoiler, they have usually rotted beyond repair or they have been cut somehow. I had swapped hatches and used the regular spoiler until finding a notch back in the junkyard and then I fitted a Fiero GT wing to the back deck.

IIRC, you will have to drill new holes in your hatch as the different spoilers mount in different locations.

Re: Spoiler question. Trans am.
If you buy a 'glass aerowing (87-90), you don't have to install an 87-90 style 3rd brake light. They come with the holes on the underside of the wing, but the only time you can see them is when the hatch is open. I didn't have one on my car for some time because my original was missing and couldn't find a good replacement. Nobody ever noticed the holes. You can just use your original on the glass and that's it.
