Access Door Question
I have decided to put a fuel pump access door in my car (please, keep the flaming to a minimum
). Basically, I just want to know if anyone has purchased a good access door or knows where to buy one.
I want to make this look good so I am looking for a nice door that I can rivet/screw into my floor pan. I searched around for a while but couldn't find any retailers of access doors. Any direction would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Access Door Question
I was going to make one, but then I started looking at the size of it. Top middle and then down behind the seat a little and across to the drivers side because of the lines. The pump has to come out and the lines with it. If I am wrong about this then post up!

Titan, you will most likely have to fabricate and/or modify something similar to what you want. If you or someone you know is handy and has tools and knows how to weld, if needed, it should be easy to do. The easiest thing to do would be to carefully cut out the area you want access to, measure and cut a piece of similar gauge sheet metal and inch or so longer and wider so it overlaps, lay it over the hole, drill a hole in each corner and then install a sheet metal screw in each corner. To keep water or exhaust fumes getting in, if they would be a problem, you could use some self stick weather strip/foam tape around it. Just a thought. Maybe take a couple of hours and go through a salvage yard and see what you could adapt. Right off I think about gas filler doors but they are probably too small. I just remembered our `49 Studebaker Champion had rectangular vent doors inside the car!

Re: Access Door Question
My car just has the floor area cut with the same type of sheet metal screwed over top. It was done before I bought the car but is handy and doesnt look bad at all. The carpet is over it as well so know one can see it anyway.

Re: Access Door Question
It is a Morosso door called "fuel access door". I don't have a pump in there anymore. But still need to get to there in under 10min so I have it.

Re: Access Door Question
Thanks for the info jimdutro, I may end up just putting a piece of metal over it due to larger size and smaller price.

Re: Access Door Question
That door will not work on a third gen unless you cut the metal lines off and find a way to connect them at the tank.
I'd like to see a pic of the smallest access door that'll still let the pump be removed from the tank.
I originally cut the top out of a spare car to make one that overlapped about an inch front and rear (meaning an inch down front and rear into the seat area and the trunk area) and about a foot wide, maybe 14 inches. Then I went and looked at the pump and the lines coming off the top stretches across the top of the tank, past the top, makes a right angle and goes almost to the frame. Lines are long!
And remember that the pump unit has to come out of the tank a ways before clearing the hole.
Personally, I think I'm gonna chop the lines and make a small hole. I see no other good way. I have two sets of lines so I'll post up what I figure out. Prob have to sweat some fittings on the lines and break them at the pump holder.

That is a 3rd gen with a 4th gen tank. Oh and just so everyone knows I have a custom fabed aluminum cell under the car and there is 1"x1"x1" pading on the top of the tank to make more of a seal.
