I live in western ny, but i never drive my car in the snow or salt covered roads. i bought the car three yrs ago and it had no rust on it at all. during the winters i normally put a car cover over it aswell. six months ago i noticed a tiny little bubble popping up right near the fender lip in the rear driver side. now there are like 5 or 6 bubbles all along the wheel well lip. it has gotten way worse in just those six months. also now in the rear passenger quarter panel just to the left of the low tip of the passenger door the paint is chipping off and i see a little bit of rust... what the hell can i do to stop my car from melting away in the next yr!

How would someone go about fixing these spots? sand down and bondo, or cut and paste a new lip in? i'm on a very tight budget but i don't want my car to rot really bad. plus what if i fix these issues and then six months later the car starts rusting in another area?

 

I just found a 1-1 hole in my frame right below my door... all rotted out from the inside.... the rest of it is weak. One of my lips is going also, I haven't figured out anything yet, but it seems that yours is rotting from the inside, so you may need to cut and replace But the sooner you do it, the less you have to cut.

Just go out and borrow some tools from your buddies, i'm sure you could also find a wrecked 3rd gen to get a lip from

 

yea i have a friend who does body work so maybe he can hook me up for cheap with the paintwork.. i'm not a very good welder though, plus my father hates me working on my cars in his garage. i got yelled at last night for doing my brakes. i know that cutting the rust out is always the best cause i've seen cars with bondo, and after a while the bondo bubbles out real bad. i know theres one place that actually sells the fender lips and various other parts that are known to rust fast. i just can't remember the site.. rust sucks, next car i buy i'm gonna get that anti rust coat they offer. maybe that will help.

 

If you can get to it put some por-15 on it and it will stop the rust. You can put right on top and don't have to remove all the rust. I would remove the flaking metal. It will help strengthen the metal if it's not to bad. I would look for wear water could be getting to the metal. YOu might have a chip and the weather is killing your car.

 

same thing happend to my iroc had a tiny bubble now its starting to spread im gonna get it fixed this spring hopefully

 

I got the same thing. Thats the only spot where I have rust too.
