Hood shocks that will work on steel cowl hood

I have a steel cowl hood on my camaro and I have gone through 3 sets of hood shocks in the past year and a half. Does anyone know of a hood shock that will actually last with the weight of the cowl hood?

yea, i saw the title and the first thing that came to my mind was that you would go through alot of them from weight. i don't know of any that would work, but wow, three sets in a year and a half, thats alot.

Yeah. The first set were the stock ones so I wasn't expecting them to last with the new hood, but the other two sets lasted about 8 months each. I think I am just going to have to buy a hood prop.

Why would the cowl hood be that much heavier than a stock steel hood? There isn't THAT much more material.

Yea, wtf? They should work just fine. Are you just using a cheapo parts store strut, or a good GM one?

Is your hood heavier or lighter than your stock one?
