window washer hoses

window washer hoses
on the window washer hose after it splits it goes to the drivers side, but theres this little thing inline, its like green and tan or something and has barbs on each end, then it goes to the nozzle, what is this thing? and do i really need it?

Check valve to hold fluid in the line. If you don't want, it send it to me.
