Re: Black chromium paint

Is this what you speak of? As far as information goes... There's a few forum type posts about it on a google search. One being a hypothetical with some stylized pictures of mercedes and audi's... The other is one asking basically what you are and it seems to just lead to more questions and no real answers. In other words, they are probably just as useless as my reply here...Lol

Re: Black chromium paint

I actually found that site a while ago, but couldnt find it again. Blahh, most of those cars looked terrible. Too much chrome, not enough color. The mercedes in the snow looked real nice though.

That hyper black looks good, the only thing I uncovered on the web was a question to how it holds up to weather and scratches. Might look like garbage after a while. My car is mostly a drag car, definitely not a show car.

The other strange color I was thinking about was a pewter type, like those little dragons and other medeivel stuff. With the change in darkness in the corners and valleys. That would be very difficult though.

1000 bucks a gallon is a bit much to experiment with. Maybe I'll just stay with a nice regular black......

Re: Black chromium paint

There's a guy in my town that drives a "pewter-looking" Suburban. It has some sort of paint technique done to it to give it a special effect kind of like the medieval figurines you were talking about. It looks like it was painted silver then wrapped in plastic wrap (like saran wrap) with some black & white on it ... this is the best I can describe it ... then cleared. It actually looks pretty awesome. It doesn't hurt that he's got about a 3" lift on it and some wicked black rims. I'll try to get a pic sometime if I can. It is awesome on the Suburban, don't know so much about a 3rd gen.
