Rear Glass and "Door Things"?

First, I have an 83 Z28 (My Baby). On the doors are a black plastic piece, just behind the side mirrors. What in the world are they called? Anyone know where I can order a new set or a set in good condition? Can't figure out what they are called nor where to get them.

Second, mysteriously my rear glass shattered. Huh. Couldn't be violent neighbor..but that's another issue. I can't find this glass ANYWHERE but having it shipped from one place in another state that has it, to the tune of $1800, not including installation. (Glass is $1600, shipping is $200). So any ideas? Anyone ever use plexiglass instead for that area? Know where I can order that glass that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg? We are currently looking for a donor car, but as you know, only those that are restored are for sale and pricey at that. Ones that are dying a painful death in farm fields and yards, the owners just won't budge to sell them at all. Any clues?

Thank you. My stomach is still tossing from seeing her in that condition today.

Do you not live anywhere with salvage yards? I could imagine they would be that much. I was thinking about buying another one since mine had aftermarket louvers on it that scratched the glass up.
They are in just about every salvage yard around here. Might have some ice scraper scratches in them, but I can get over it since they are probably about $40-$50 after you pull it yourself. Not to mention I can upgrade to rear defrost that way.

Sorry to hear about the broken hatch by the way. I got lucky when someone tried smashing a pumpkin on mine. Luckly it hit the spoiler first and must have weakened it before it hit the window.

I'm not sure if the glass is the same (anybody?), but I have an entire rear hatch off a 92 Firebird in western North Carolina. Don't know where you are ... I'm not going to ship it, but it would be WAY cheaper than that glass you're getting. I'd give it to you for $100 if you came and picked it up.
