1986 Trans Am project starting plans
Ok everyone, this winter I will be taking apart my car piece by piece for the restoration going to be done to it. The floor pans are horrible from what I can see from looking under the car. I will be ordering all replacement parts from Classic Industries, unless there another place someone has in mind. I just wanna know what I should be looking out for when taking apart everything. I will put pics up after I start (which will be in the winter)

if you cant just patch up the floor pans then obviously becareful of fuel lines and anything with the transmission directly underneath.
i wouldnt want to repalce the entire floor but hey go for it if u have the time and money and have no other choice

yes i agree jsut you dont see the floor. its good you want it done right and to look good. just theres mroe than one way to have a floor pan.
and like i said its depends on time and money and i should of added how far you personally wanted to go with it.
like me personally i would just patch it up unless it was truly rotted and gone.
but no judgment just be aware of what is underneath when you cut out and weld in the new floors
goodluck hope its everything you want it to be

So after welding everything in, Is there a paste or whatever that goes on the metal so it prevents rust?

there is some stuff thats called sp-15 or pr-15 dont remember ill look into it and get back to ya but its a paint that when it dries is kinda like powder coating and it prevents rust and its really durable a friend of mine did his suspension parts in it and it hasnt chipped.Or you could just go with spraying primer down just anything thats rust resistant

K thanks, That will be just for the body then when reconstructing it, Wat bout takin it apart
Re: 1986 Trans Am project starting plans
por-15 works great if you prep first, you must scuff the surface or it will peal up other than that it is solid. taking every thing appart is really the easy part, now put things back together now thats a pain. my suggestion is that you go buy sealable baggies and mark them for what you are taking apart. label them very well and try to keep all the hardware for one particular peice in that bag, and get one specific box to put all the screws in. i am in the process of a full resto on my car and there is nothing in it. i didn;t do the best job keeping things organized and now i am kicking myself in the ***, because it is hell trying to find what i am looking for. do yourself a favor and organize

Make sure you use very very good ventilation when working with POR-15 the stuff is awesome, but can damage your respiratory system.
