Hatch Weatherstrip Adhesive

I am thinking of changing the hatch weatherstrip on my 85 camaro. I have 2 small leaks. Apparently, every time it rains, I see the water stains on my interior panels and I get a musty smell.

The car was painted 10 years ago and I noticed that the weatherstrip was nested in the groove, but the guy who painted the car looks like he removed the weatherstrip but did not use an adhesive.

Do I need the adhesive? Or can I just change the weatherstrip?

Yes, you will need adhesive. I've used 3M Weatherstripping Adhesive and after 6 months I don't have the little leak where hatch edges clamp down. Also, if you looking for GM weather stripping let me know.
