Hood Shock ???

what is the proper way to put them on, as in is the black part down and the silver part up or the other way.....also should new ones be strong enough to lift the hood once you lift it an inch or do you still need to help it up, all they do is hold it up once its up

Black part up. If the struts are new, they might 'help' the hood up for awhile--the rear hatch struts used to do that. Mostly, they'll hold the hood/hatch in place.

Re: Hood Shock ???

Black part up. And after three sets I gave up replacing them. Engine heat just kills them at least in my car. A 3ft long dowel rod is my hood supprot.

Re: Hood Shock ???

I always put the black part at the bottom.I really dont think it makes a difference either way.I get all my hood and hatch shocks off of junkyard cars and havent had any problems at all
