87 Camaro Door to 91 Firebird Door

So, I mucked up my door the other day moving the car around the garage (DOH!) and the damage looked like it'd be easier to replace than to repair. I picked up a used door from a yard that has no dents, and only a couple of scratches (which could have been from them taking it off) but it's from a 91 F-bird.

The window seal at the front of the door is different than my old seal with the half arrow. Is this a better seal than the old one, and if so, how hard would it be to install the same kind of seal on my passenger door for symmetry? If both work equally well, how can I swap my old seal setup onto the new door?

Secondly, the F-birds used a smaller door control panel than the Camaros, so I don't know how that will mount up, if it even will. I might have to drill out the rivets holding the mounting bracket on, and just rivet it to the new door, so no big problem there.

Looks like the GFX will bolt onto the new door really easily, which is nice.

Does anyone know how to remove the wiring from the door easily? The junkyard just cut the harness off, but I'd like to remove my wiring from my door and put it through the new door. Is this even possible?

Thanks for all the help!

Everything swaps over exactly. Your "door control panel" is just a plastic trim piece that screws to the door panel and inner handle bracket just like the Bird controls. You MAY need to swap over your armrest bracket, though. The weatherstripping should work, not entirely sure. As for the wiring, you just go inside the door, disconnect the wiring to the door lock motor and switch, the power mirror and window motor (if you have them), open the door, and push the wiring harness boot out of its hole in the front of the shell.

Don't you just love it when the j/y hacks up your wiring?

Erg. So the door doesn't line up right. At all. And it's not just hinge problems. I have to slam it to get it shut, and then when it's shut you can see and feel where the door sticks a little up and out from the body of the car. What gives? I thought firebird doors were the same as Camaro doors. :/

They are. Doors also happen to be the biggest pain in the @ss to align once you break the factory "seal", if you will.

I didn't think that our doors had much adjustment to them. Only two of the bolt holes are slotted, all of the others are just round, leading me to believe there isn't a lot of adjustment. Guess I could be wrong. Oh well, car is getting painted. I'll let them deal with it.

Are the hinges on the new door in good shape?

They felt that way. I put in a new lower hinge pin and stuff before I put it on the car, but was gonna hold off to put in the new upper hinge pin kit until after I got it painted. Maybe it's something they can fix/adjust at the paint shop, if not, I guess I'll be getting a second door.
