hood prob

i just bought aqnew 86 and the hood wont open unless if i pull up on the back of the hood by the hinges. I figure that the alignment is off? i was wondering is there a certain way that the hinges should be installed or do i have to play around with the hood and hinges position until i get it right?

Re: hood prob

My 82 was that way. The hinges were bent and really stiff. They had some side to side play as well. That could be normal though, I've never felt a "new" hinge. I was able to open mine by wiggling the hood side to side from the front. When I had the hood off, I took the shocks off and sprayed some graphite onto all the piviots. Worked them up and down a few times, put the shocks back on and reinstalled the hood. It goes up allot easier now, but going down one side will lower faster/more than the other. I'll have to wiggle it to get it to drop all the way.

On a side note, the hood used to stay up with the shocks. Since lubing them, it will not stay up on it's own. I haven't gotten around to putting some new ones on yet.

Re: hood prob

so does the hood release and just not open real easy? or does it not unlatch unless you pull up on the back? If the hood does release and just does not open easy I would definatly recomend lubeing every moving part of the hinge and getting some gas shocks installed. you can actually dent the area of the hood that the hinges mount to down if you have to pull up too hard on the hood to open it.
