Door Hinge Top Pins
Hey there,
I'm in BC, Canada and am trying to do my 87 Firebird top hinge bushings and pins. I got the bushings from the local Lordco parts store but they can't seem to be able to supply the replacement pins ?.
Is there no standard replacement pins for that or do I have to go to GM to get these ?.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Door Hinge Top Pins
I was hoping to just go pick some up locally and install this weekend.
I heard that the pins should only cost a few bucks.
I have the bottom set, but can only find the top bushings in the local parts store (no pins).
I will try Canadian Tire tonite

Re: Door Hinge Top Pins
I don't know who sold you upper bushings only. You might want to return those. The upper hinge pins are swaged in and can't be removed without destroying them. There are two solutions for repairing the upper hinge pins. GM's solution is to replace the entire hinge which requires drilling out the welds that hold the door half of the hinge to the door. Then you drill holes usinng a template they provide and mount them using screws that thread into a threaded plate that you put inside the door.
The second solution is to use one of the aftermarket hinge repair kits. These require you to grind off the head of the old pins and push them out. Pop out the lower hinge pin, then with the door supported from below retract the door enough to remove the hinge bushings. Install new upper and lower bushings, put the door back in place and install the upper and lower pins. You can also do it by removing the door and service the door while it is on the floor, but you have to un-wire the door which takes longer. I'm supplying info on the hinge repair kits I sell.
