bought another camaro!

A '91 RS l03 auto, but this one needs a paint job. I'm going to paint it dark blue, with silver GFX, is there anything about third gens that needs to be adressed while repainting? any common problems that I should look into?

Thanks-

Eric

rust behind the GFXs, bumper sag on the covers. Battery tray rust, lower radiator support rust. The primer they used orginally sticks to the metal really good and protects decently against undercutting of rust but the paint doesn't always stick to it real well, so make sure you don't have loose paint that needs to be sanded off. The hoods are big and easy to warp if put too much heat in them while sanding.

I noticed the paint flaking off as I was blocking it out, so I've decided to remove as much of the original as possible, I've already sanded almost all of the top half of the car down.

So far I've been lucky, the car hasn't had alot of rust, (knock on wood!), and the little rust I've found has only been on the surface, nothing deep.

also, anyone know where I can get new weatherstripping and about how much I'm looking at spending on it (doors T-tops, hatch)

Thanks for the info-

Eric

Re: bought another camaro!

GM started building the cars in van nyes CA and other places with a new water based paint system in I think 88 or 89 to meet EPA standards, mine is an 89 and it has it. If you notice alot of late 80's early 90's GM vehicles have the paint pealing but the grey primer isn't rusting. That is the great paint system they were using.

1aauto.com, or the dealer still has the factory style. I think 1aauto's is softseal brand and I've heard it can be a little thicker and make it harder to close the doors etc until it ages a little.

$300-$400 on the weatherstripping.
