Re: t-top weather stripping replacement

...i would like to know this also...i would like to find a place around me to do it also; the local place, abc glass, went out of business i think; well at least i cant find where they would have moved to at least...but the kit runs like $200 something depending on where you get it from...i would rather have a place do it with a warranty tho...im sick of the lil drip drip on my passenger seat...i carry towels around with me and stack it up there just incase it rains!...if you take the cost of the kit and the labor i would guess probably 300 bucks would get it done but thats just a guess...i wish someone on here was really good at it...i would pay them for an hour or two of labor if they did a good job(it needs to not leak tho!)

If you take your time and peel all of the old seals off and clean up the old glue really well, they're not to bad to install.

Just take you time and make sure all the corners are glued well and seated properly.

Re: t-top weather stripping replacement

200 dollars for a whole weatherstripping kit!!! i WISH!! try 100 bucks JUST for your door window sweeps. good luck finding it for 200 bucks... and its very easy to do it yourself.. not difficult at all. why dont people install things themselves?? why do they have other people do it for them? takes the concept out of restoring your OWN car.

Re: t-top weather stripping replacement

I've read post on here about some of the cheaper weather strip kit and you can find them for right around 200- 250 but you get what you pay for the GM or other factory like kits are around 350 and from what I've read your better off spending the extra 100 for a good product.

We offer both the Metro and GM seals. If you go aftermarket just remember to stick with the same brand if buying bits and pieces.

Here's a link to our weatherstrip section

Hey Tony - cost aside, what do you think are the best quality weatherstrips for t-tops? Even though the original GM ones are nearly twice the price, are they better seals? It's not a huge job but I guess I just don't feel like doing it twice is all I would prefer to pay the extra if they are better...

We've received really good feedback from the GM original sets. Our aftermarket kits are from Metro. The Metro ones are nice too. What I recommend is if you buy a kit and need to do the entire T-Top roof stick with the manufacturer that you've started with.

Another words I wouldn't mix and match the top seals with Metro and GM,stick with one or the other.Keep in mind there are a ton of angles on that roof to seal, so whatever you buy for seals, the manufacturer engineered that set to fit properly with their brand.

As long as you follow this advice you should be good to go, and of course it doesn't matter if you have GM T-Top seals and Metro window sweeps or a hatch seal, because those pieces do not need to fit together.

Hope this helps you guys out.

i looked and looked.

4 piece kit for 225 was the best i could find.

but somehow i found a gm restoration kit 8 piece(brackets etc..) for 185!!!!!

next day it was in the mail. i'll let you know once i get it and install it how it turns out.

Re: t-top weather stripping replacement

yea i know. it only showed up when i searched "firebird 82"

when i kept searching camaro or firebird 82-92 all the expensive ones.

then i tried different combos.

go figure this company did 82-87 firebird for some reason. not sure what changed after 87. maybe the large pin t-tops but not sure how that affected the rubber

but its such a great deal im waiting for the catch ya know

Re: t-top weather stripping replacement

You really have no idea what's involved if you think the job will be complete in an hour or two. You do get what you pay for. My GM seals lasted 21 years and only needed to be replaced because I wanted to. If GM seals will last me another 20 years, I got my money's worth. Buying the cheap stuff might not fit the same, cover the same areas or work to prevent leaks as well.

After removing the ttop weatherstripping, you will have hours alone of cleaning up the old adhesive. It's not hard to do, but is time consuming. If someone is willing to take 2 hours pay to do the job, RUN!!!!

That is a very good deal! What is the story with GM Restoration parts? Are they the same as genuine/original GM parts?

OUCH!!!!! Also, a little dielectric grease "massage" of your weatherstripping goes a long way as well. Welcome aboard anyways!

I'm interested to see how this one works out for you. I ended up going with original GM's for my car, but our other car might need some in the not-so-distant future...
