steering column dissassembly

Hi

Trying to get the steering column apart to get the wiper switch cable through. Right now the column is about 80% apart. It's dropped down, most of the front section is off (steering wheel, lock plate, big round indicator switch, front surround, ignition barrel, smaller side surround).

However there's still a 20cm or so long cylindrical plastic housing on the column (not the front plastic housing which encompasses the ignition, but the back one).
Does anyone know how this thing disconnects? Even dropping it a bit down the column would be fine. There is a small knotch on the lower left side, but I couldn't see anything in there to help. There's nothing holding it on at the top or bottom of the cylinder that I can see, so I'm unsure what's holding it in place.

I'm not able to pull the cable/connector through with fishing line, there's a hump where the connector just keeps getting stuck.

Thanks

edit- I tried searching but no luck, the "tilt steering" guides don't cover how to remove/loosen this part. I've got a Haynes manual, but it doesn't have much detail regarding the column.
