Yup, you sure did. He sure didn't get the message with your straightforward approach so I probably shouldn't expect much better results. Oh well. I was mostly trying to entertain others anyway.

The danger of throwing the car in neutral (if you even remember to do it) in a panic situation with split seconds to decide what to do? is what if you miss N and hit "R"...it can happen. You will have your foot on the brake at the same time....

Why not just shut power down and worry about stearing and braking...if you want to grab a shifter grab the emergency brake since it's an emergency situation.

What a person does in a emergency situation can determine how the car survives and if anyone else gets hurt. You have split seconds to decide so choose wisely.

Goany...mix a period in those sentances every now and then -just to throw the reader off...lol.

Have you ever noticed that you can push the shifter from drive to neutral without pushing the button? It's meant for panic stops, just push it forwards and it'll stop at neutral, pull it back and it stops in drive (or OD). It works on column shifters too, push straight up without pulling back and it will stop at neutral.

You were driving down the road and hit some of the periods you forgot to add to your sentences?

Huh?

No, he was inferring that you need to use correct punctuation, like periods and commas.

I had a 1999 escalade once and i was jacking around with the column shifter going about 50mph and accidentally put it in reverse... All it did was slow down real fast and make alot of noise. Had to rebuild the transmission a couple weeks later. Shattered some internal stuff not sure exactly what tho.

hahaha... so you mean all it did was break your transmission? Hmmm. that might just be the danger he was referring too.

I don't want to be a total n00b, but I still don't exactly know what the 1LE option is. Apart from basically no creature comforts and better brakes and gearing, is there any difference from a normal 350 T/A?

Yes I understand how the shifter works. I was refering to a person who is in the middle of panicing and hits that button pushing or pulling into N and goes right past N to R. It can happen sooner than you think. I watched my wife do it once (she is a panicer) but never let the button go and slid back to N before a lot of damage was done.

You arguing over the internet on a third-gen tech board is what gives Camaro/Firebird owners a bad name. Grow up and if you are going to post on here say something useful, ask a serious question, or get the F**k out. Period.

For some reason my button doesn't lock into any gear..
Maybe i should get that fixed before i throw her into reverse on accident.. or park..

LMAO Kid?!? I was graduating HS when you were born. I wouldn't be bragging about having a$$ dents in your hood if you weren't the one that helped put them there.

Now run along and go play in traffic.

That's odd. i have a 1995 Cadillac Deville with a column shifter anf if i push straight up it locks in neutral, and if i pul far enough pack from park and release back and push straight down from reverse it locks straight into over drive.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

cruise control can be added to ANY car. and on top of that, cruise control is pretty easy to ad to a thirdgen its just a plug an play harness and the multi function switch, but no a 1Le should not have Cruise, and it should definately have the upgraded brakes, i would question the validity of his bein a 1LE, BUT it has been around for 20+ years, alot can happen in that time.

You had money to buy all that stuff, but not make your car roadworthy? If you had hit my kids with a car maintained like that, I would be the one going to jail, not you. You think about that.

You are definitely the definition of a tool. Instead of fixing the car yourself (more than likely half assed) slap a for sale sign on it and hopefully someone that appreciates these cars will buy it.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

Reading this topic was pretty entertaining. From the way I see it, the original poster should learn from his mistake with half-assing his car together and driving it before it should have been on the road. Other than that though, this place is a really great forum when everybody gets along and helps each other. We may not agree with everything each other does (ie painting with rollers and house paint or whatever/hacking stuff/adding questionable styling parts/etc) but we all share something in common...a passion for our 82-92 camaro/firebirds. Lets play nicely!

you sound like an idiot....o throttle is sticking....instead of stoping to try to fix the problem you mess with the gas pedal. im willing to bet any experienced driver could have handled the situation just fine. also, its not like your driving a 400+hp sports car, your brakes should have easily stopped you......but what do i know, im just another guy typing his opinion on a internet forum. hope ur car doesnt get totaled out.

if you have regularr brakes on your car, its no 1LE, they would have had to change the front spindles and all!

Comments like this just show how irresponsible you are as an owner, and I think it's a bloody miracle that you only hit a pole and didn't smash into the side of some other motorist.
Quite frankly I don't care what you do with your car, but if it isn't road worthy - it shouldn't be on the road. I don't care if you were on your way to buy parts or on the way to the mechanics. Catch a bus or get it towed.
Good luck with your repairs, but from your comments here it doesn't seem like you've learned anything from this.

Instead of calling eachother idiots and women and whatnot, we should make sure the op learns from his mistake and how to react in a similair situation. And keep more thirdgens on the road, along with more lives. And to repair whats wrong with his car properly.

If it were me and my throttle stuck i would turn the key off hit the brake and pull to the side in a quick but smooth way. Id like to hear what other people would do not what they think the sex of other members are.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

honestly? ive been in a simlar situation, is anyone familiar with how the cadillac 4900 regulates intake air flow? It uses a stepper motor which has a switch inside, it extends out and pushes on the throttle plates, its called an idle speed control motor, they tend to die... alot, ive owned the car for 2 years and im on my third, i actually keep some in the car to with the tools needed to change it in case this happens again, was going to turn right at a light, and the throttle did not come down and the check engine light came on, i knew right away what had happened, the ISC died in an extended position, so i completed the turn at 25% throttle, which is actually dangerous considering this car produces 280 Ft lbs of tourque and has a VERY flat torque curve, so its high torque from idle, killed the engine and coasted the 5000 pound beast into a parking lot. where i changed te motor and went on my merry way

I wouldn't be driving around in a car that i know has crap brakes and no e-brake in the first place. Granted the accident was due to his dodgy quick-fix on the cruise control, but the fact remains that this was not a properly maintained car and it should not have been on the road. Otherwise he wouldn't have had the accident in the first place.

Contrast that with Chevy8588's post

That's a darn good answer, shows you have respect for the car and you are prepared should it happen again.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

im a very big preventative maintenance guy, my cars do NOT fail, and if by the chance they do, i have everything i need to get home with in the trunk. oil change every 2500 miles, or 25% life on the GM oil monitor, transmission/transaxel/differential/cooling system service every 20,000 miles complete tune up every 50,000 miles, techron injector cleaner in tank once a month, my bi-metal aluminum block/cast iron head w/floating cylinder V8 engine has 170,000 miles on the original engine and original transmission. i have about 175-180 PSI of compression in each cylinder, and my oil pressure is at factory spec with the original bearings and oil pump. there is no where in the unitied states i would be afraid to drive my car. even with that mileage on it, this engine will see 400k guranteed. any any repairs i do? i do the right way the first time. all this work is done by me.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

Exactly, you have to look after your car so that stuff like the above does not happen. I learnt a long time ago you have to have respect for the things you own and i am the same, there are no 'quick fixes' on my cars and i don't cut corners to save a few dollars because everyone knows that always comes back to bite you.

The reason this gets me so fired up is because I've seen so many accidents and near misses caused by someone else being irresponsible. Id hate to have my car damaged or be injured because someone was to cheap or too lazy to fix their car.

I hear you mate! Luckily out here they do yearly inspections on older cars so for the most part they are all in reasonable condition, but it's the driving that scares me.
I live about 30 minutes out of town, mostly windy country roads. The number of times I've come round a corner to find a confused old farmer driving down the middle of the road is not even funny. Throw some kangaroos with no road sense into the mix and you've got a recipe for disaster. Fun times...

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

Have you ever noticed that you can push the shifter from drive to neutral without pushing the button? It's meant for panic stops, just push it forwards and it'll stop at neutral, pull it back and it stops in drive (or OD). It works on column shifters too, push straight up without pulling back and it will stop at neutral.
Nope. Not true. Although I admire your creativity. ...while it DOES work, that's not at ALL what it's for. It's quite simply so you can upshift gears WITHOUT accidentally downshifting or going into reverse or park.

...and I will never gain back the 5 minutes I lost on this thread. Even Stephen, who comes into every thread and makes fun of the OP gave up on this one! That's how you KNOW it's bad!!!!!! LOL

So much for a Moderator being above taking pot shots at other members.

I don't make fun of anyone. I just cannot believe others inability to use the feature that TGO provides, to find answers themselves. Instead, it has become very common for people to expect answers to be handed to them, by asking the same question over & over & over.

TGO might as well disable the search feature & let people just add on to the overall database size.

Stephen and Abubaca, the search function on TGO is very under developed. I have a hard time just searching simple things like stage 8 bolts. Which only searches for stage and bolts and keeps the 8 out (not good for when your searching for part numbers), in which brings up a lot of threads WAY off for what I am looking for. I totally understand why any newbie or even me for this fact would start a new thread instead of searching.

Also how come when I search (and I know there are newer threads about the subject) do I get threads from 2001, 2002, why not show me the latest thread on it.

I completely dislike (not H8) but dislike the search function on TGO. I'm better off searching in someones threads/posts and doing that per person than searching and finding what I was looking for.

I am in no way starting a war here, just wanted to state that i am a great searcher...consider myself a google guru, but when it comes to TGO and searching...its something that needs mastering, and isn't very user friendly.

There should be no reason any words, letters or numbers should be removed from a search for ANY REASON AT ALL. If I wanted to search for "cases with 212 openings", don't remove 212, thats a big factor in searching, and another thing that TGO needs to look into. I am always searching part numbers, I hardly search for the name of something (as its usually a part I need), but if the part number is something small like sum-08 or something it considers 08 too common? What does that mean. Anyway, I just wanted to give a reason as to why nobody really uses the search function, including me sometimes, anymore.

Thanks for listening guys,

-Take care

I agree. The search function sucks. You can use very general terms etc. etc., but beyond that, I have trouble too. You get better at it though. Ya kinda have to dumb down your thinking to make it work!!!

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

Ladies and gentleman, allow me to give you something worth the price of admission:

Search with google (http://www.google.com/) and put in what you want to search for, then put in thirdgen into the line as well. I'll give you an example. Search google for thirdgen fuelpump 1990 1le

This will show you several sites to pick from, most of them being this website. (look in the link before you click it). This works so well i almost never use the search feature here.

The default search engine built into this site is good for searching for one word only. Multiple words "break" it.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

Hmmm....I rarely fail to find what I need is searches.

Mostly it relates to Lxx (LS1/LQ9) stuff, or trying to find a specific thing I'm looking for, to show somebody else. But yes....It CAN be tricky & take more than a single search to find it, but I rarely fail to find the item I'm looking for.

Re: Yesterday i wrecked my camaro

I've never flamed anyone for anything, but seriously, what is so funny? Forgive any grammar mistakes here but this is my take on this topic. Why all of the "lol"s? It's not funny... as if camaros were not seen as 'red neck' as it is, you show people that it might in fact be true. If you knew it was not safe, why not ask for a ride, ride a bike, walk, catch a bus or a taxi?? Two things we all know that are important, the gas and the brake. Anything associated with acceleration should be 100% to spec, anything associated with the brakes should damn well be 100% too. Remember, if it can fail, it can, and at some point it will, even if your preventative maintenance is top notch-- it happens. But to be so blatant and disregard common sense with a zip tie on what controls the fuel going into the engine? Yea..

The "lol"s everywhere in your posts really get me, seriously? In between the lines, it reads as ignorance.
