anybody ever use a new chassis harness in a thirdgen?

I got my '86 back together and I just wasnt satisfied with it. I ended up stripping it back down for paint and to make some changes and decided to just ditch the factory wiring all together and use some from an LS1 car since I'm going to be using an LS1 engine harness and 0411 PCM anyway.

Question is, has anyone here already done that? It should all plug together and be fairly easy to route, with the exception of relocating and extending a few wires. Is there anything else that I might not be seeing here that might pose a problem?

I know the wiring for the window switches will need work, and I will need to change some electrical connectors and possibly change the firewall somewhat.

I'm going to be using as many factory things as I can. Meaning I will also be using the ABS (I know) as well as airbags and the steering column.

Any other issues anyone can see? It's basically using a newer electrical system in the older body...

So you're putting a LS1 car's body wiring in your 3rd gen?

Why?

I could understand for a LS1 swap with 4th gen dash, but theres no benefit for a mostly stock car (aside from the engine harness)

I'm not doing an LS1 swap. I'm using an LS1 computer with my motor and also want to integrate alot of the functions 4thgens have. I would have to make so many changes to the stock harness it wouldn't make sense, so I may as well use LS1 parts so it at least plugs together and eliminates alot of the trouble.

This car will have the dash, airbags, ABS, RAP, key fobs, express down for the windows and every other feature of a 4thgen, just in the thirdgen body.

I can't help you with Ls1 stuff. I can say that with my 86 car and 92 wiring harness project I am running into a lot of changes between the years. The basics are the same but I finding more of little brackets and stuff that I am having to modify- good thing I saved everything from the donor car!

Do a search on "history of Jade TA" or something like that

He dumped 99% of the 3rd gen wiring and ran 4th gen everything, even switched his camaro donor harness to use flip up headlights

I wanted to point out that you didnt need to for a simple PCM swap, but since you're swapping even more it makes the job easier

FYI I hope you dont plan on simply putting a LS1 engine harness on your SBC and expect it to run short of some very specific engineering or some kit from S10wildside, namely his LS1 coils on the SBC setup using a 58x reluctor wheel (Awesome by the way)

A simple 0411 swap on a SBC has more in common with a vortec SBC/4.3 than a LSx as far as wiring goes.
