my rust repair project

i recently bought a 89 gta as a little project/fun car.

i have never repaired any rust before, so bear with me... the car spent the majority of it's life in indiana and illinois. it's got a little rust going on. i was thinking it was going to be alot worse but i gutted her today. good news is the passenger side is in pretty good shape. however the driver side is far from great. both rockers will need some attention, they are both crushed in from it looks like a shop lift. but i haven't got the GFX off to real look at it.

few pictures:

passenger side, pretty good, it appears to be just some surface rust, maybe a little spots that will need some attention. however the lower kick panel, i didn't get a good picture of it because i forgot, but it's rusted all the way through.

under the driver seat. will need to be replaced, looks intacked but i can stab through it with a screw driver. doesn't appear to go into the door jam area so it shouldn't be too bad

under left rear seat, appears to just be some light rust, nothing to too bad

Re: my rust repair project

Did it sit at all...have t-tops? Did it sit under a tree or anything for any part of it's life? Only reason I ask is the firewall/front cowling area gets pretty bad if it collects dirt and leaves and sits with moisture for any length of time without being cleaned out. You can maybe see signs of damage there under the hood by the driver's side firewall area where the wiring harness goes into the firewall by the driver foot well or on the pass side under the a/c fan housing. Just something to look at.

Ugh, I think I'm going to be in for similar surprises when I start ripping apart my Firebird next year. My car has spent its entire existence here at the Jersey shore. I'd like to see what else you encounter.
