Question About Primer

Guys I'm getting ready to pick up some pieces for the front of my car from the wreck, and the odds that I can find a like color donor car are slim.

Now, over the summer while I save up for a paint job I DO NOT want to be driving around with a white Camaro that has a red front end.

Regarding priming all the donor pieces, what is the best method to make sure that when I do get my paint job, it adheres properly?

What is the proper technique for sureface prep before priming? Do I need to sand the primer agfter it goes on or just spray it and let the paint shop worry about the rest? Any particular brand of primer I should be using? Should I use a spraygun (Out of the question) or would a spraycan do the trick?

Re: Question About Primer

Primer is not waterproof... Driving around with a primered front end for the summer is probably ok, just plan on stripping it all off and repriming before you paint and don't be surprised if moisture has gotten through the primer and caused some surface rust... Think you'd be better off driving a white car with a red front end.......

Re: Question About Primer

The best method for you is to sand the panels with 320 grit sandpaper and prime with PPG K36 it is a water proof primer and you will not need to strip back to metal if you are primeing the front bumper then you need to use a flexable prime

Re: Question About Primer

if your going to save up for a paint job let the painters do their job and prime it them selves...
