Another weatherstrip question
Before this starts a flame war im just looking for some education so i don't end up spending a ton of money that i don't have to. Basicly im starting to catch momentum with body work on my 84 TA and its is come time to get weatherstripping now the places that i have seen offer OE but not OEM which i dont know if there is a difference but i want to make sure before i dump, i have looked at soffseal for an kit for the entire car which would be nice, but i have heard of people saying they will never buy it again. then i see this from A1

from what i have read that the stuff from gm is the best but i dont want to spend the 1200 a side from the dealer(i bought the car for 300, i think i would be nuts to buy it at that price) but corect me if i am wrong but isnt certified parts are just parts made by somebody and they throw money at gm for that little label?
i really like the soffseal lifetime warranty but if the part isnt that great then nuts to them, if somebody can recommend a good seal then im all for it

Re: Another weatherstrip question
Heres what i did.
For the t-tops i got genuine GM, money well spent. For the doors and hatch i got soffseal...or was it metro moulded? idk its in my garage i think. the doors took a few weeks to "mold" the new seals. They work fine

Re: Another weatherstrip question
If you have any questions about our seals, call Dan in Sales and tell him Tony sent yah.
We carry GM,Metro & soffseal weatherstrip. They all fit good. My advice is on the T-Top section stick with the same manufacturer for the top of the roof and the glass.

Re: Another weatherstrip question
I have had the metro moulded brand and now have the soffseal brand from summit. The metro brand was o.k. but didn't fit as nice as the original did. The trunk and doors are fine with that brand. I had my car repainted so I bought new t-top seals again but went with a different brand. The soffseal, in my opinion, fits a lot better and looks like the original. When I had the metro brand, I had a very hard time getting my t-tops to close and it took a long time with two people to get it to shut and just left it closed for months until it settled in. My new ones were no problem.I still have the metro brand for my doors and trunk.

Re: Another weatherstrip question
I'm thinking about new weatherstrip for when I repaint my car this summer. Prices add up quick especially for T-tops! I read that Steele rubber is supposed to be good and fit real nice.

Don't mean to steal a post, I hope I don't at least. Does anyone know of replacing the plastic edges on the T-tops, mine are craked/missing in spots so I feel if I do weatherstripping, there will be no difference?

I don't know if 1aauto still sells them or not. Some places call them drip rail, rain rail and so forth. They use to have some. i know the gm brand is discontinued. The replacements are hard plastic but look and work really nice. I bought some from a guy that was getting rid of his parts b/c he needed money so I got both brand new for $25. Most places aren't selling that piece any more. Found the link but they are not in stock
