did i go to far?
hey guys, im in the middle of repainting my fire-bird myself. i have work for a painter for many year but cars are much different. i no that the prep work is the most important part of a good paint job so i have sanded my care down with 120,220,320,600,1200,2000 and i have used very little bondo to smooth things out. the question i have is did i go to far with the sanding?

Yes. Higher grits like that are Finish Sanding. You've sanded it so smooth now, the new paint will be trying to hold on to a surface that is not much different than a finished paint job. In other words, you "undid" the sanding you started, by sanding too fine/too much.

You Prime over 180 and Paint over 320. This is what we are taught in my automotive class.
