Re: just a question

Yeah, it can be a little tough to find 82-84 stuff or info. To start with, they are the first of the thirdgens so more have probably been junked or taken off the road. However, a lot of the parts were the same from 82-92 so there's plenty of parts out there.

I think they get less attention because they didn't have the performance that the later cars did. The majority of the early cars had carbs and most people now would rather have fuel injection. (You could get fuel injected cars then but nobody wants to mess with a crossfire.) Basically, the later model cars were all around better cars. They had better build quality, better handling, and better engines.

From my experience, when comparing cars in similar condition, there isn't much of a price difference between years. So if you could pick an 85-92 TPI car for the same price as a comparable 82-84 car I think most people would prefer the later model.

Re: just a question

As mentioned - the 82-84 year models were different in some respects, and there of course are more cars from the 85-92 years if for no other reason than that's more years.

90% of parts are interchangeable across all years (82 - 92), but there are peticular parts for alot of years not available in others. 82-84 had cross-fire injection cars, there were center console clocks, I think the seats with the "Camaro" printed on the fabric, and other little things not in the other years. 90 - 92 years had yellow lettering on the interior, yellow guages, different trim around the guages, and some other stuff not in other years. 1991 and 1992 had aero ground effects, the other years didn't. T-Tops were different as well - some early cars had C&C tops with hooks, while later years got factory tops with pins - and then the pin size changed as well.

So there are differences across the board with alot of year models, but most stuff swaps between them. It's when you are trying to remain year-specific with correct year parts that you can run into a few snags here and there - but patience is the key. Sooner or later, whatever you're looking for shows up on here in the clasifieds, on your local Craigslist, ebay, or at Hawks, Thirdgen Ranch, Modern Day Muscle, etc. It's the thrill of the hunt!

Re: just a question

While I see quite a few camaros in my junkyard travels most like has been said already are 85-92 cars. The 82-84 camaros show up every now and then with some yards having more than others. With that being said I remember about a year ago seeing not one but two 1982 z28 indy pace cars in the same yard at the same time.I do know of a yard that currently has a few 82-84`s but they are nothing to speak about
