hood clearance

To anyone who can lend a hand:
Im new on here and not sure if im sending this message the right way. I have an 1985 Camaro Iroc Z 28. I've done some extensive modifying and I have a 4 inch cowl induction hood, under that a 14x3 K&N Air filter then a Holley Street Avenger 670cfm Carb, then a Weiand Intake Manifold-350sbc. My question is can i drop a size or more on the airfilter and have enough clearance for a 2inch cowl induction hood, or does anyone know of a way to measure clearance before i purchase another cowl hood? Im trying to avoid purchasing another hood, i want to do this the right way and save money. thank for your help.

Re: hood clearance

If it helps, I have a Performer RPM intake and a Edelbrock 1405 carb, with a open element filter that extends 2 1/4 inches above the carb - and that is under a stock hood (the top of the filter barely touches the hood insulation). You can get specs (height info) on my carb and intake at www.edelbrock.com - that will give you an idea of what fits under a stock hood, and with a 2in you have 2 inches extra.
