Taking my hood to get painted

I have never painted any vehicle parts in my life. So I have a friend who said he would paint my cervinis cowl hood for 600 cash. Does this seem like a good deal, and how many coats, and of what should I get. My car is black

wow is that a "FRIEND" lol 600 just to paint it sounds pricey especially being a friend even if its a shop and he's color sanding and buffing it still pricey unless hes doing bodywork to it

The problem is that Maaco paint jobs suck. You are lucky to get 3 years out of a Maaco paint job. You also have to do the prep work yourself or it will come out looking like crap. Past that the paint itself doesn't seem to be all that great.

I don't know why anyone would recommend them. In any case $600 is too high to paint a hood. The going rate for that should be closer to $200.00.
