Best way to remove surface rust on hatch window frame?

The attached picture I've uploaded will make it look worse than it really is, but I have some surface rust on the metal window frame of my Firebird's hatch that I'd like to do away with.

Take a quick look at the pic. Should I try some bondo? or replace the frame? (if that's an option)

i had the same problem on my car i just fixed a few weeks ago tape off around the painted areas pick up some red scotch scuffing pads get the rusted areas cleaned up and scuff the areas with good paint as well then i did two coats of duplicolor filler primer which helped smooth it out a little bit then i did 3 coats of duplicolor trim black and it came out great

So basically, I should just treat it like I would a spot on the body?

Sand down the rust completely
Prime the bare metal
Paint it?

Truth be told, I've never done it before, but I figure the window frame is a good spot to start :]

Id use some appliance epoxy paint on that small strip, will last forever, awesome paint but it like 2 days between coats so get it right the first time.
