I tried searching and did not find the answer -

The car is a '83, drivers window only goes down half way - then sounds like the half moon gear is stripped. Lots of mechanical clicking, and I can't force the window down as it's happening. It does go up and when it gets to the top - same mechanical clicking. I had the door apart, but could only lift the door panel up as I could not unfasten the top clips because of the window not going down all of the way.

Could something be out of adjustment? I do have a new regulator motor to put in, but I'm not sure that is the issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

Do you only have the motor? Or do you have the whole regulator? It's probably the regulator that's going bad.

 

I have the whole regulator. It works fine until it gets halfway down - then sounds like the gears are not meshing. And when it gets to the top - the motor wants to continue running...causing the gear to skip over the teeth.

 

anyone have this experience that can help me? Or... how do you remove door panel when window won't go down?
