Re: IS IT POSSIBLE????
if i could find one at the rite price local i would but i seriously doubt that i can find a third gen with at targa being it that i dont believe that came factory like that...you may have been able to special order it back then but even if otherwise... im sure it would cost more then just converting...i believe someone needs to google targa tops...

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE????
I would think it'd be possible, but the car would flex horribly due to the lack of the T-bar used in a T-top car.
Exotics that have targa tops are much more rigid and are designed for it. If you strengthen a thirdgen a lot I don't see why you couldn't turn it into a targa, but it'll always be flimsier than a hard top or t-top car and thus have weaker performance and be more unsafe in a crash.

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE????
thank you sub frame connectors brace in the hood sway bars the whole nine yards not worth it Re: IS IT POSSIBLE????
Alright first off it doesn't say convertible anywhere and I speak perfect english. Second of all a lot of people confuse targa top with t top (apparently they think t is short for targa rather than the actual roof resembling a T). Third this topic has been covered and you can turn a 3rd gen hard top into anything you want the question comes down to how much money do you really want to spend on it so my response was on par there. Back to the original poster as I stated earlier you can turn a hard top into anything but generally it is cheaper to get the body style you want initially. A search will show people that have done targa top conversions but the major thing to think about is structural rigidity, from the factory t top cars were given extra support and on top of that when they turned t top cars into convertibles they added even more bracing so the hard top was the weakest built car they made. A targa top would be just like a convertible since there would be no roof support so to do something like this you would need to fabricate the roof section, cut it out, reinforce the chassis and then all kinds of little things like weather stripping finishing the interior etc. But I think the hardest thing to do would be finding a shop to do this, so unless you have a torch, sawzall, welder and some damn good fabrication skills it will be very tough. But back to your original question yes it is possible but by the time you're done with this you could easily buy a c4 vette that already has the targa roof or other cars with a targa roof. I hate this response but a search will find you some results

dont get me wrong i love chevy especially camaro, if i could find and afford a mint in every gen. i would buy and most def. keep it that way ... but i have a 89 RS hard top paint not in good shape insides not in good shape...if you go look at the blue book vaule on these cars its around 2500 tops in good condition... so with that being said if i plan on spending thousands to restore the appearance im going to do something to were i know that although the blue book value isnt high i could sale it to anyone in my city for 5digits easy

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE????
i was told by a friend of mine that there is a place in Minneapolis that will cut the top of the car perfectly that they can reuse the top of the car as your removable top so you don't have to repaint the car, i believe that they also install the seals and other misc. pieces for the targa top for about $2,000 if you have "weld in" sub-frame connectors installed, but that was three years ago i think

Re: IS IT POSSIBLE????
if i have a third gen y would i ask them about a forth gen...YES THEY DO T-TOP CONVERSIONS ON 3RD GEN CAMAROS and do it rite weather stripping the whole 9...but b4 its all said and dont i plan on spending around 7thousand on the ex. and 8 under the hood...so if i ask 5 digits no one can question...so if youR tALKING IGNORANT STOP, it was simply a question. but thank you to all who actually gave me answers i needed...im not going to do it. there are other ways to look good and keep performance because if i put 8 under the hood i want 8 out of it.

You can get somebody to hand build a custom car for you from the ground up if you have enough money. Is it worth it to you?
