GTA ground effects attachment question
I am getting ready to install the ground effect pieces back on my GTA. I sanded down the rusty nuts and painted them with rustoleum but my question is there seems to be a rubbery type of material inside the nut that I assume is a sealant so no water gets in the mounting holes? Is that accurate and any ideas what I can use to replace it? I imagine silicone would work but just thought I would throw the question out there. Thanks.

That stuff acts as a thread locker, to resist it just backing out & falling off.

Do you think silicone will work as a replacement or would you recommend something else?

Re: GTA ground effects attachment question
Please don't use silicone anywhere on the body of your car. Once it gets on... or even near... painting is almost impossible. It causes what are called fish eyes. The paint actually moves away from the silicone and causes all kinds of problems. The gray stuff you see squeezed between the body and bolted on parts can be replaced by a product called strip caulk available at an autobody supply store or probably a bodyshop would give you some. A similar product would also be available at RV parts stores or repair shops.

He wasn't asking about a body part. He was asking about using it as the nutsert for a nut.I would just add liquid or the new tape Locktite for those nuts.
