Without pics, it is a pure guessing game. But my bet is on frame damage, based on your description.

Pics needed... these cars don't have a "frame" its unibody so more likely ull need a frame machine to align it

it depends on the damage it could be something easy that 1 pull will do it or it could be more will be hard to tell with only pics since doors and other panels will cover the actual damage, u might be better off gettin another shell unless YOU do the work

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

That honestly doesn't look all that bad. I am in the situation as you right now. Last year I made a miscalculation and oversteered the car on I-95 and smacked a truck at 70MPH. Completely obliterated the front nose and right front fender. You can see where the hood got pushed towards the driver side and the driver fender now sticks out slightly past the driver door.

The body shop looked at it and said it wasn't all that bad given the accident I was in. I'm actually getting it pulled next month. Costing me $450.

And everyone here is correct. Other than repairs that require specific tools/knowledge, do the work yourself.

again i doubt theres frame damage but if there is u can use a 2x4 a tree or even a telephone poll like the one u hit and a comealong from harbor freight and that will do it. i can guide u through the process if u want

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

Well take pics of the driver side first... but the first thing ur gonna be doing is take the nose hood and fenders off and ur gonna measure the unibody to see if its squared. ill point out the reference points as soon as u take pics with the hood and fenders off

It's your car to do as you please but for the frame work I'd really recommend taking it to a body shop that has machines and can do precise measurements rather than doing it yourself with guesswork.

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

im about to post mass pictures i will be taking it to a shop to get an estimate ask what they would have to do and then base it off there
IF ANYBODY NEEDS TO SEE ANOTHER PART OF THE CAR tell me and i will take the picture im thinking some underneath pictures but i dont know i crawled underneath the car and nothing but fenders look bent the only thing that worries me is that the door wont open on the opposite side that i hit and then hood is raised and shifted ovetr along with the rest of the fenders

is not guess work when you know where to take the measurements from and and what they should be, how do i know? I do it for a living... but i do agree that its better to take it to a shop because they have the equipment to pull it. That dsnt mean they will do it right but at least u have someone to complaint to if something is not right.

OP. The reason why ur ds door dsnt open is because the force of the impact got transfered through the radiator support to the ds fender and thats what made it to close the gap between the door and the fender. Thats why the shop or u will need to pull the ps side fender unibody section to pull the whole thing where it should be but measurements need to be taken first to see how much pulling will be needed.

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

great pics... honestly i still think is just the fenders, i still doubt theres too much frame damage.(by the pics). next step is to take it appart and start taking measurements. if u want just take it to a shop and see what they say but im 98% they will give u just an estimate because they will need to take it apart to asses the damage.

how does it fill when u drive it?? does it pull to one side?

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

it drives fien doesent pull to either direction when i let go of the wheel
stil has all its power
but u think that a shop would have to take off the fenders to give me an estimate

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

If the body is warpped you can easily see in the tires. Run a string from back tire in the middle of the backend of the side wall to the front tire middle of the front sidewall. If the body is messed up it will show the string should touch both ends of the sidewalls front to rear. Do that for both sides.

It looks like you hit it and moved the fender over. All of that is bolted it will bend the fender and could cause that.

Yes, you need it to touch the entire entire sidewall on both tires on both side of the car.

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

Any estimator can do a quick cross measurement of the engine compartment and see if the nose is swung over. Usually when you see the fender to door gap on the oposite side close up it's a safe bet something has moved.

And even though the string on the tires thing will show certain types of damage, front rails are designed to bend in front of the suspension, which means the string may not show anything, but frame damage may still be present.

Agree...

the "cross measurements"where the ones i was referring to in my previous posts, the is the only way you would know for sure about the unibody damage, but in order to get better measurement, fenders and hood will need to be off so that nothing is in the way

If nothing else by taking the bumper cover and fender off yourself you won't have to pay the shop to do it and the cost will be a little less.

Did they give you an estimate or just a verbal price. At $50 per hour thats 7 hours. We charge 2 hours for "setup and measure" on the frame rack and that would leave 5 hours for removing the parts, repairing the damage and reassembling the car.
You may feel it's a bit much. As an autobody tech I thinks it's fair and reasonable.

There is no way you will get the car straight w/o a rack if the frame is bent, iy may look straight but it'll be off. Take the parts off yourself and let them straighten it...

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

u think that is a good price 350 for squaring the body
and u say if i take the front bumper cover off and the fender it should drop the price a bit and he gave me an estimate
ALSO do i have to remove the headlights for the front bumper to come off
and my dad said he has gone top this place in mexico for the pat 8 years i took my escort out there last year for them to replace the fender and it came out preety good
IF THEY HAVE ALL THE ALLIGNMENT MACHINES wouldent a professional autobody shop in mexico be just as good as the Mexicans at A-Way Collision Auto Repair

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

It can be a little easier to get to the bumper nuts that run up the front of the fender if you go in thru the headlight area. Take the black plastic bezel off the headlight and take a little hook tool and release the spring from the corner of the headlight bucket. then the headlight will just slip off the adjusters and it's out. Then you can reach in and get to some of the upper nuts a little easier.

No you don't have to take the other fender off to put the car on a frame rack. The way I see it from your pics is the right fender has to come off to get to the damaged upper rail thats right inside the fender.

If the estimate you got is itemized then it will show the cost they figured to remove and install the bumper cover and fender. If you do that work yourself the bodyshop should take that much off of the price.

Oh crap ... my bad ... you're working on a Camaro not a bird. The headlight thing may not be that easy.

Re: crashed drifting car doing bout 40-60? need repair help

so your saying to remove front bumper is alot easier if i remove the lights because it makes it easier to get to the nuts ALSO nothing i could do but save me money by taking the front fender and bumper off AND doesent that make the car not street legal incase i had to drive down to the body shop after fenders and bumpers are off

I was mistaken about the headlights on your car... I have firebird on the brain. lol. So no it won't make it easier to get to the bumper nuts on the front edge of the fender. I think on a Camaro you have to do it from underneath and the lights may all come out with the bumper cover. And yes you would have to rig up turn signals to drive it during the day. I don't think there is any law that says you have to have the bumper cover on and the bumper bar behind the cover will stay on the car. For driving with the fenders off I don't know what cali laws are but you could have just a couple bolts in it and remove it at the shop.

actually in california u HAVE to have the bumper cover on ....
and yes as a body tech i also agree that 350 is more than a fare price to straighten the damage....
----------------------------------------------------------------------

thats why i suggested before. u can take measurements ur self if the unibody where the fenders bolt into moved a lil u CAN straightened ur self (i've done it without frame machine) if its too much take it to the body shop to do the pulling, if its on the bottom than u do need a frame machine.
