Light refinishing on some 91 92 TA tail lights
I am currently working on 'refurbishing' my spare taillights. The set that are on my car came 'blacked out.' I'm hoping that when I eventually strip it off they are perfect - but in the meantime I wanted to make these look a little better.
They have a number of issues. Chiefly, they are delaminating (of course). They have a slight crack in the corner, are missing the lettering, and there were a number of small scratches. I thought about taking them apart and trying to fix the checkering - but I just don't feel like it at the moment.
I started by cleaning them and replacing the PONTIAC lettering. I ordered a new sticker on eBay, but it was a terrible semi metallic vinyl. So I scanned it, vectorized it, and then recut it in an orange/red vinyl. Thing was - the sticker I bought and the one I cut wasn't the right size. So I rescaled it, made a choice between the red and chrome vinyl, recut it, and transfered it onto the lens.
Then I just started painting. I put 4 coats of clear on with just a tiny bit of black dye in it. Then about 3 more coats of clear, and this is what they look like at the moment:

Tomorrow I will likely wet sand them out a bit, and put another 3 or 4 coats of clear on - with a little more tint to tone down the delamination.
FYI.
