Hey everyone,

I've started the process of getting my 91 GTA painted. The body is solid with 1 dent and 2 rust areas (a small nickle sized piece in the door jam and some surface rust in the t-top areas). I've started getting estimates and honestly, they seems staggering to me. The first one I got was $6500, and the second was $7800. I don't want a $500 Maaco job. I know materials have gone up recently and my paint color (brilliant red metallic) is more costly. I want a paint job that will be nice 10 years from now and I'm willing to spend some money to get it, but, like everyone else, I'm on a budget ($5000 is my top end). Realistically, are those estimates close to what I should be paying?

Sounds high to me as well. I'd go to local track, or check with local car clubs (3rd gen or not), etc. and find a good Joe Blow painter (not a large fancy place).

A "friend of a friend" did mine on the side - I paid $3000 for the labor. I supplied the paint (my HOK Kandy paint was $1200) - so I got a really nice HOK Kandy Teal paintjob and body work (I had one large dent, several smaller ones, surface rust, and peeling paint that had to be all taken care of) - all for under $5k.
