winsheild weather stripping....

I had my 87 IROC painted several years ago and the one thing I still havent put back on the car is the T- shaped rubber molding around the windsheild. Anyone know where you can pick this stuff up? The windheild was not removed but the rubber was.

Try an auto glass shop. They put new stuff in when replacing the windshield, so I'd assume they could do it or get you some. If not try Classic Industries or maybe one of the board sponsors.

Modern Day Muscle has NOS ones for under $50.

Curious, why didn't you put that in? The car has probably rusted out in the windshield channel by now, just from washing it if you don't have that piece...

Re: winsheild weather stripping....

Thanks for the reply's fellas. To answer a couple of the questions, I didnt reinstall what I took out becuase it was the original stuff and had faded and soaked up wax. I have tried a couple of the local windsheild repair shops, they wont sell it to me, something about liability becuase they didnt install the windsheild. One shop said that the windheild had to be freshly installed, wet caulking to install the molding. The responce I got from them was BS, so I just let it go. I would like to install the molding though, feel bad every time I look at it.

As far as rusting out, not a chance. That molding doesnt keep the water out, only pine needles and such. The seal is made with the adhesive that holds the windsheil in place. My car doesnt have a spec of rust on it and has no leaks. It also hardley ever leaves the garage. It has had 10K miles put on it in the last 11 years.

I'm going say probably not. The 82 I'm working on has (had) rust around the windshield. I can almost say for certain it was because of the trim holding moisture. Both upper corners and a little in the center off the roof. If it didn't look so bad without it, I'd not install new stuff when I put the glass back in.
