so i am swapping in a spohn k member. my 91 camaro has been in a fairly bad accident. the repairs involved a frame straightener.

when i go to remove the old k member what can i do to insure the car stays/actually is still as it should be ie everything is square?

i was thinking of a temp stut tower brace and maybe tie it into the lower front unibody?

any and all help would be appriciated!

Re: k member

not sure there is much you can do. without knowing if there is stress and in what direction will make it hard.

All i can think of would be to weld bracing across the car to hold things in place, but that may now be easy with an engine in the car.

Also this will not help if the k-member itself is already bent.

try just loosening the bolts holding it in, one at a time, and see if they have any resistance from the k-member pushing on it.

Re: k member

engine is out of the car. i do not believe the k member was bent.. it just may be the structural component holding things square. as you say.. it is hard to say.

Re: k member

Even if the frame is tweaked, aligning the K-member wont be difficult unless everything is WAY out (1/2")

Leave all the bolts loose until all 6 are in, then slowly torque them down until the alignment pins go in. If the pins dont line up with the holes, use a large pair of channel locks and/or pry bar to tweak the K-member. It will flex slightly along the main hoop

Id recommend torquing the front two bolts first because they are in tube sleeves that may or may not be too close to the tube to get a socket over (love that design Mr Spohn )

Re: k member

If using stock A arms with spohn k member, wheels will be moved towards the front of the wheel well... if you have spohn a arms, they move them back, and will align with the spohn k member...
